Abstract: Direct Laserforming
is a new generative manufacturing technology for
the production of metal parts with almost unlimited
shape complexity. Through the use of standard materials
in combination with layer-by-layer manufacturing
Direct Laserforming opens new options for the tooling
industry.
The melting process during Direct
Laserforming yields parts with a density close to
100%. Standard materials like different steel, Titanium
and Aluminum alloys, Nickel and Cobalt alloys can
be processed. Mechanical properties of parts, like
tensile strength and hardness, match the material
specifications. Examples of industrial tooling,
small lot series and biomedical parts obtained by
this rapid manufacturing process will be shown.
