Abstract: Over the past eight years on the market, Z Corporation has rapidly advanced its equipment and material performance around the key tenants of speed, versatility and color. The recent introduction of the high-definition Spectrum Z™510 full-color printer represents the company's third generation of color 3D Printers, and sets new standards for color fidelity. Combined with some novel software, color is poised to finally break into the mainstream with a number of productivity- and decision-enhancing capabilities that go well beyond traditional applications.

This paper gives numerous examples of how customers are using color today and explores what interesting applications might emerge going forward and what impact they will have on the product development process. In particular, we will discuss how the combination of color and new software can be used to:

  • apply engineering labels to parts,
  • annotate and mark-up parts,
  • apply text, logos and graphics to parts,
  • assist with the RFQ process by illustrating machining or assembly steps,
  • enhance visualization through edge highlighting, surface shading, etc.
